Choose your provider around the email your product actually needs. Emailer API offers a guided path for constrained transactional messages. SendGrid is an option to evaluate when your requirements extend to broader email workflows and paid scale.
Who Emailer API is built for
A small development team often needs one reliable setup path: verify a domain, select a template, connect an event and integrate the API. Emailer API puts a built-in assistant in the account to help with those steps. Google and email-link sign-in are available, and a separate AI account is not required.
The helper works with current account evidence. It can explain missing DNS, prepare supported additions after an authorized Cloudflare connection and generate framework code. It cannot apply DNS changes or send emails. The customer reviews those actions in the product.
Compare the right starting terms.
SendGrid’s published policy for new direct signups from March 25, 2025 provides a 60-day trial with up to 100 emails per day. Sending stops at the end of that trial unless the account upgrades. Legacy accounts and partner offers can have different terms; confirm the terms on your account rather than assuming all SendGrid accounts are identical.
Emailer API currently has a $0 Free for Life plan with no automatic overage billing. New accounts start at 3,000 monthly recipient reservations and 100 daily. The planned target of up to 50,000/day is not available today. Actual sending uses a shared platform budget of 1,000 attempts per day, including 50 reserved for identity email. These are different limits; neither account allowances nor a trial headline establish usable production throughput.
Know what changes when you migrate.
Emailer API is not a drop-in endpoint replacement for every SendGrid mail request. Each message needs an approved fixed template, a verified sending domain and a fresh genuine event bound to one recipient and the rendered content. Bulk sends, arbitrary HTML, custom subjects, attachments and Cc/Bcc are unavailable.
Financial receipts and paid-order confirmations require Stripe verification. Other supported event types use a signed HTTPS callback on the exact sending domain. Your callback must look up the event and check the actual recipient and message context, rather than approve requests automatically.
A decision you can validate
- List every message your application sends and identify unsupported workflows before moving anything.
- Review the exact template catalog and event verifier requirements in our developer guide.
- Confirm DNS, signing, account access and current capacity in the saved onboarding checklist.
- Integrate with scoped server-side keys and validate the exact request without consuming send quota.
- Require an authorized test send and inspect later delivery logs before routing customer traffic.
If you require broad customization, campaigns or volume beyond our shared current shared pool, evaluate SendGrid’s current products and plan terms. We do not assert better deliverability, reliability or support without evidence.
