Emailer API vs Postmark: which workflow fits your app?

Compare guided transactional setup, event safeguards, Message Streams and starting plans. Understand the current capacity tradeoffs before choosing an email provider.

Emailer API is worth evaluating if your priority is an included setup assistant and constrained transactional workflows. Postmark is worth evaluating if you want its established email product, Message Streams and paid sending plans.

Start with the kind of email you send.

Emailer API currently supports fixed, approved templates for events such as account verification, password resets, sign-in alerts, payment receipts, paid orders and appointment confirmations. Each send requires fresh event verification and one matching recipient. It does not support newsletters or broadcast campaigns.

Postmark supports transactional and broadcast email through separate Message Streams. Calling Postmark “transactional only” would be incorrect. If your product needs both categories, assess how its streams, account requirements and billing fit your application using the provider’s current documentation.

Our focus: a guided path through setup.

Customers can sign in to Emailer API with Google or an email link and choose the email they want to send. The built-in assistant reads their saved setup progress, checks domain DNS, selects an approved template and generates integration code. No external AI account is needed.

For supported Cloudflare TXT additions, the customer connects their provider through a secure field and reviews a specific change plan. Existing policy conflicts need manual resolution. Customers retain control: assistant tools cannot apply the changes or send an email.

How starting plans differ

Postmark advertises a free developer plan with 100 emails per month and a Basic plan starting at $15 per month for 10,000 emails. Pricing depends on volume and feature tier. Check the provider’s current plan details and overage rules before choosing.

Emailer API is $0 per month on the Free for Life plan with new-account allowances of 3,000 monthly recipient reservations and 100 daily. Its planned target of up to 50,000/day is not available today. Its actual platform budget is shared: 1,000 delivery attempts per day, including 50 reserved for identity mail. A reservation is not a delivered email. See capacity and quota limits.

A practical evaluation checklist

  1. Map your event types and template customization needs. Confirm that an approved Emailer API template actually fits.
  2. Inspect your DNS provider and existing SPF, DKIM and DMARC records. Use account-specific values; do not copy another domain’s records.
  3. For financial events, confirm that you can use Stripe verification. For other supported events, implement a real database-backed callback.
  4. Estimate peak demand and retry volume, not only average monthly emails. Compare that demand with available shared capacity.
  5. Validate a sample message without sending. Before migration, require your own authorized delivery test and inspect webhook outcomes.

What we cannot claim

We have not independently established better inbox placement, uptime or speed than Postmark. Our differentiation is the included setup workflow and deliberate send controls. A provider’s marketing claims are not our own measured results.
